I would like to welcome you to my web page. The site is devoted to Celtic Country Furniture and my particular speciality Súgán Chairs. Súgán is the Gaelic word for 'straw' or 'straw rope' which was used to seat chairs throughout the Celtic regions of the British Isles. These areas produced some unique and distinctive styles of furniture. After careful research into the history of Celtic furniture I have created my own versions of traditional styles of furniture. I hope they still capture some of the Celtic spirit and resourcefulness of the communities that made them centuries ago. I make seven designs of Irish súgán chairs, mostly named after members of my family. There are some Scottish examples and other furniture to complement the range. Notably the crofters table and celtic kitchen dresser would have traditionally accompanied the chairs. Please use the navigation bar on the left to browse through my collection. Many of the images like the one above can be 'clicked' to reveal more pictures behind - give it a try. |
